Date Night @ The Crab House At Pier 39 (SF)

If my parents ever find out how we racked up the bill  at The Crab House, we would have gotten a hardcore scolding about “wasting our hard-earned” money. Over $100 worth of crabs can probably feed my big family in the Manila – not just two hungry people, I think.

It was definitely a splurgey dinner of crabs and few prawns. Eating seafood at the Crabhouse was just half the fun. Sitting by the window with a fabulous view of the bay is a must for a complete dining experience.

The hostess totally hooked us up. We had one of best seats in the house – windows seats where had  an awesome view of the San Francisco skyline, the comings and goings of the Rocket Boat,  and tourists having fun on the ferries.

These are what we ordered:

  • 3 lbs of crab in butter garlic sauce $56
  • Shrimp cocktail $13.95
  • A side order of garlic fries $9.95
  • A half-bottle champagne for me
  • Iced Tea for Enrique

Being Pinay, I had totally “out-eaten” Enrique. I was cracking those babies up with my teeth and fingers while he was fumbling with the crab claw cracker thingy. The seafood was fresh and the crab was meaty enough but the cooking method of roasting slightly dried it up. And growing up on seafood (my dad used to call me “little crab” when I was little because of my huge appetite for seafood), I still prefer simply prepared steamed crab with vinegar, garlic and chili peppers for my sauce, instead of the American version of rich melted butter.

An enjoyable, “break our piggy bank” but total fun meal with a wonderful view of SF Bay!
