NOTE: MARKET BAR IS TO CLOSE ON APRIL 26, 2020 AFTER 17 YEARS OF BEING IN BUSINESS.
Restaurant Week in San Francisco brings sunshine to the dreary winter weather after the holiday festivities are over. BFF and I eagerly await Restaurant Week every January. We have been going for years. In fact, she told me that this has been our 11th year with Restaurant Week this year. During Restaurant Week, participating restaurants provide a prix fixe menu at discounted prices in order to entice customers to try their offerings.
For Restaurant Week 2020, we chose Market Bar. It was a great choice! I met up with her for lunch at the Ferry Building where Market Bar is located. Market Bar provided three courses when many of the participating restaurants just provided two (an appetizer and a main entree).
We could not believe our eyes when we saw the generous portions placed in front of us. BFF ordered soup while I had the Dungeness Crab Arancini for our starters.

We both chose Lingurian Seafood Stew which I think is just another name for Cioppino which is San Francisco’s signature dish. It was packed with shrimp, mussels, clams and sole. It was really tasty.

Our server suggested that we get the cheesecake for dessert. BFF and I had to go back to work so we asked for our desserts to be packed to go. When I opened it at work, I was very pleased with how pretty it was. I gave it to Mr Sweetie when I got home. He inhaled the whole thing and said that it was really good.

Another successful Restaurant Week for BFF and me. We were satisfied with our meals. With tax and tip, our final tab was $66 ($33 each) which I thought was a fair deal with everything that we had. We were glad that we went back to work pretty full, unlike one year when we had to eat again because the portions that we had were so small. We always laugh about that Restaurant Week memory.
We wanted to try other restaurants next week but we are both busy and could not find another day to go. RW only runs for 10 days in January. We vow to up our game next year and try at least a couple of restaurants!

Market Bar’s interior decor is no nonsense masculine while it has a lovely outdoor street side patio overlooking Embarcadero, a major street that leads to the piers including Fisherman’s Wharf.

Restaurant Week sounds like loads of fun! All the dishes are delightful – and the seafood stew looks very comforting, especially in winter ๐

We look forward to Restaurant Week after the holidays. It is fun to try different restaurants. It used to be twice a year but now just in January. ๐
